- RPM and cache. 7200 RPM drives are faster for everyday use; 5400 RPM drives are typically quieter and cooler.
- Check SMR vs CMR. SMR drives can slow under long sustained writes; avoid them for continuous recording or RAID.
- Use surveillance drives for CCTV. Drives such as SkyHawk are intended for DVR/NVR recording.
